Analog Security Cameras and Systems – Get Time-Tested Technology

Analog Security Cameras

Analog Security Cameras

Analog security cameras are where it all began. This time-tested technology is where surveillance cameras started. This continues to be a viable option for security camera systems today. Though the original technology has been around a long time, analog security cameras do not under-perform.  In fact, LaView analog security cameras challenge false perceptions of this technology.

We’ll walk you through the questions our HD analog systems answer, along with the stigmas they wash away with their high-quality, updated tech. But first, let’s talk about what analog camera technology is.

Analog Security Cameras – Where it All Started

CCTV cameras were first developed in the late 1940s and were used in Germany and the US for governmental purposes. By the 50’s, analog security camera systems were in full effect, used for public monitoring. Color security cameras came about around this time but were not perfected until later on.

As the 1970’s rolled in, people were given the option to use a local recording device with playback available on VCRs. Having the ability to view playback footage was a gamechanger, leading to the development of the DVR. These dedicated storage devices act as the central hubs of analog security camera systems.

With storage for important camera footage and playback available, security was improved by analog technology in a big way. Commercial property owners adopted this as a first line of defense against theft and crime.

How the Security Camera Systems Work

Analog security cameras transmit footage via coaxial cable directly to the DVR. The DVR uses compression technology to consolidate and store the footage on a surveillance-grade hard drive. To access this footage, the user connects the DVR to a monitor. Or, the other option is to connect it to a router and access the footage via internet connection.

This technology comes under scrutiny as IP security camera systems have updated these methods by transmitting and recording footage digitally, via a network connection right off the bat. This brings to light the questions of accessibility, quality of footage and ease of set up when you compare traditional cabling to PoE connections.

LaView hasn’t left analog camera technology behind, and neither should you! New HD-over-coax tech has allowed us to create premium, HD quality analog security camera systems that rival IP options across the board. Our HD analog security cameras subvert all the traditional notions of old technology and take us into the future of modern surveillance.

The Benefits of an HD Analog Security Camera System

  • Price
  • Easy Set Up
  • Better for Your Network
  • Simple Expansion/Upgrade

Costs of HD analog security camera systems tend to be lower. You can save money on your security by going with an HD analog security camera system. IP technology is newer but comes at a higher cost. With the updates to our lines, you have to decide what is worth investing in. If you choose HD analog, you are getting many of the same professional security features at a much lower price.

When it comes to setting up your DVR and adjusting the settings, you’ll experience an easier process with HD analog. DVRs, compared to NVRs, are much simpler with not too many extra steps when it comes to setting up. The simplicity of this technology is something to consider if you are looking for a new security camera system.

People tend to forget about network requirements when shopping for a security camera system. Our systems are suitable for any home or business, but you should also take into consideration the amount of network devices that are using your bandwidth. HD analog comes out on top of digital IP in this category because it does not automatically use your network to transmit and save data. As a result, you may want to consider an HD analog security camera system if you already have a lot of network devices.

When it comes to expanding or upgrading a previous kit, analog technology makes things easy. Though there have been significant upgrades to the functionality of the cameras and systems, the wiring from previous analog kits is likely compatible with our newer options. This makes replacing an outdated kit or expanding a current kit easy.

HD Analog Security Camera Systems Stands Up to the Questions

Common Question 1:

Doesn’t digital IP provide a better image quality?

Answer:

It may in some cases, but with our latest HD analog updates you really aren’t sacrificing quality. Before, analog systems were limited to 1080P picture quality and below. With the recent updates, including HD-over-coax tech, we have security cameras that can produce up to Ultra HD 4K image quality. Have a look at our Ultra HD 4K Analog system to learn more.

Common Question 2:

Isn’t running PoE cables easier than running multiple cables for analog systems?

Answer:

This question is something on the mind of those that are familiar with older analog technology. Old security camera systems used to require you to run two separate cables. Luckily, you no longer have to deal with this if you decide to go with an HD analog security camera system. Our systems feature consolidated BNC cables (or “Siamese” BNC cables) that bundle the power and data cables into one. This makes installation twice as easy as old kits.

Common Question 3:

Is coverage area limited with analog?

Answer:

Again, this is a thing of the past. Older analog systems were limited on overall image quality. That includes both clearness and viewing angle. Those old systems didn’t provide wide coverage, leaving you with potential blind spots. Conversely, our newly optimized HD analog security cameras can capture 90° wide-angle views (and even wider in certain cases).
