I live with my family and two dogs in Saint Augustine, Florida. We have one daughter in college at the University of Nebraska, one out on her own, and one teenager living at home. I decided to install a surveillance system mainly so that our daughter could see who was at the front door whenever she was home alone — our area is one of the fastest growing counties in the United States, and it just seemed like a good idea to take some proactive measures in protecting my family and property.
One of the important aspects we considered when getting the surveillance system was how sturdy and weatherproof the cameras would be, and that turned out to be the best thing we prioritized! Living in a sub-tropical area, extreme heat is an issue, as well as regular afternoon thunderstorms. Recently, we had a full-blown hurricane come through the area, which caused quite a bit of damage to our house; we had to replace the roof, fence, and one window. Funnily enough, all but one of the cameras stayed intact through the entire storm, recording the chaos! I’m not too happy about having to repair my home, but I do take some pride and amusement in the fact that my surveillance system is basically unscathed and functioning as good as new!
In my opinion, everyone should look into getting a surveillance system. We have helped police catch intruders in our neighborhood using our recordings, and they’ve commented multiple times on how we have the sharpest footage they’ve seen. It feels great to be able to help law enforcement do their job of keeping the community safe, and it gives you wonderful peace of mind knowing that your home is protected even when you’re away.
