“I’m a clinical research professional who has dedicated my career to developing drugs and treatment options for cancer. I was born and raised in south Brooklyn where I’ve lived for over 25 years. It’s always been a quiet middle class community — a peaceful haven away from the noise and high living expenses of NYC. Crime has never been much of a problem here; however in recent years, there’s been a wave of new residents (mostly friendly, but there’s always bound to be a few bad apples in the mix) which is what initially made me consider setting up some surveillance around my house.
Barely three days after I installed my surveillance system, I captured a rather unsettling scene on camera — an unknown man performing vulgar acts right in my yard. I immediately notified the police as well as the community news blog and the city council. I happen to live right across an elementary school, and I definitely did not want the man to harass or endanger any of the children there. The footage from my camera was clear enough for the police to identify the man, and shockingly he was actually found to be a local resident.
I have since uploaded the footage to YouTube to show people that in our busy lives we’re not always aware of what is happening around our homes and in our community, and surveillance technology should be seen as a necessity for safety. If it weren’t for my camera, I would never have expected something like that incident to happen in my safe neighborhood, much less in front of my own home. I am proud to say I was able to prevent that man from committing further crimes in my community, and I am very glad I had the technology to do so.”
